2021 Pony Heritage

2021 Pony Heritage

For the launch of the Ioniq 5, Hyundai presented a reinterpretation of the 1974 pony concept car. The “2021 Pony Heritage” is unfortunately only one of a kind.

Hyundai chief designer Luc Donckerwolke already noted it at the premiere of the new Ioniq 5: The model for the design was the pony concept car from 1974. The similarities, however, had to be looked for a bit. But things are very different with that “2021 Pony Heritage”, which is currently on display in a showroom in Busan, Korea. The electrified retro vehicle was created under the direction of interior design chief Hak Soo Ha. It was drawn by Yang Min-Seok.

The true-to-proportion similarity to the original Pony series model, the first generation (1975 – 1982), is no coincidence. In fact, Hyundai has completely dismantled, modified, electrified and reassembled a copy of the compact two-door model.

Retro and futuristic in one

The interior is a real eye-catcher. Instead of displays, Nixie tubes in the dashboard provide information such as battery charge level and speed to the driver. A display appears to be placed in the middle of the steering wheel, on the left edge of which sits a control element in the form of a small joystick.
