IONIQ 5 charging

High speed charging

Thanks to the new E-GMP plattform the Hyundai Ioniq 5 supports both 400-volt and 800-volt charging infrastructures. That means, it’s possible to use the fastest 350 kW public chargers. Such a charger will top-up the batteries from 10% to 80% charged in just 18 minutes. In other words, just five minutes of charging is enough for 100 km / 60 miles of range! How cool ist that?!

By the way, apart from the IONIQ 5, only the Porsche Taycan and the Audi e-tron GT have an 800-volt system! In terms of price, however, these two models are in a different dimension. So this is a very cool feature which is even included in the entry-level model of the IONIQ 5!

Plug types suitable for the IONIQ 5

For “normal” public charging stations or for the Wallbox at home, the Type 2 plug is used.

For fast charging, the CCS plug (Combined Charging System) is required. Since the CCS plug has two additional pins, the plastic flap (underneath the type 2 connector) has to be removed.

Take a nap during charging

Of course, not everywhere are the fastest 350 kW public charging stations. And it is also not certain that the charger is able to provide the highest possible power.

With the Hyundai IONIQ 5, you may even be happy if the charging process takes a little longer.
This is because both front seat can be electrically tilted backwards and with the footrest you lie very comfortably. This way, the charging time flies by.
